Residents unhappy over venue of mango exhibition
KRISHNAGIRI: With the 19th Annual Mango Exhibition set to begin on Wednesday, the residents nearby the venue of the event expressed unhappiness and concern over its arrangements.
The selection of the Government Boys Higher Secondary School ground as venue has met with disapproval by the public. While some say that it is in violation of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) guidelines, many others lament that the school students will not be able to use the playground for a month.
Some medical professionals told The Hindu that the organisers had not taken into account the Pollution Control Board guideline banning conduct of public programmes within less than 100 metres from hospitals, educational institutions, courts, religious places etc.
Dr. P. Jayaraman, Director, Padma Clinic (situated near the gates of the exhibition venue), expressed concern over the plight of the patients at the nursing home.
He urged the district administration to restrict the timings of the exhibition to 10 p.m. He also suggested that a permanent venue for exhibitions could be selected by the district administration just outside the town.
C. Ramesh, managing partner, Chinnasamy Agencies, said that a permanent venue for exhibitions should be fixed outside the town on the lines of the Trade Centre in Chennai.
