HOSUR: A herd of over 30 wild elephants entered human habitations in Krishnagiri district on Monday night.
According to forest officials they came from the Karnataka reserve forests through Jawalagiri recently.
Driving back the herd into reserve forests is a daunting task for forest officials as people have gathered in strength in the area.
Forest rangers of Hosur and Denkanikottai and other officials have arrived.
A herd of elephants had entered paddy fields near Denkanikottai last Wednesday to eat ragi crops kept after harvest. Later, they went to a lake nearby and returned to forest.Worst-hit
Villages near Reserve Forests such as Anchetti, Denkanikottai and Kelamangalam are worst-affected between October and February every year. The herd destroyed ragi crops in 3 acres in Samanthamalai near Denkanikottai on Monday night.
Farmers have been demanding solar fencing to prevent elephants from entering fields.
