Rs. 15 lakh given to 265 students under champions development fund


With a view to encouraging sports the Government has disbursed over Rs. 15 lakh to 265 students across the State under champions development fund, said Sports, Youth Welfare and Environment Minister T.P.M. Mohideen Khan, here on Monday.

The Minister was here to distribute champions development fund to 45 students from Krishnagiri, Salem, Dharmapuri, Vellore, Villupuram and Cuddalore districts at a function held here at the District Sports Stadium.

The Minister distributed scholarships to 45 students and said the Government was taking various measures to improve the talented youth. These scholarships were given to those who are participating at the national, state, and Inter-University sports meets at all India level every year.

The State Government was also helping national champions to improve their performance with the special scholarships.

The Minister said the Government was spending Rs. 3.63 lakh to 87 persons to undergo special training abroad. To those taking part in international events, the State Government was extending Rs. 30,000 as air fare.

Satyabrata Sahoo, Member-Secretary, SDAT, said the State Government was giving utmost importance for the development of sports in the rural areas. Collector V.K. Shanmugam presided over the function.

Theador, Senior Regional Manager, SDAT, Coimbatore welcomed the gathering.
