Funds distributed to kin of deceased self-help group members

The Krishnagiri-based non-governmental organisation, Integrated Village Development Programme (IVDP), headed by Magsaysay awardee Kulandai Francis, distributed Rs. 2.10 crore as Life Security and Solidarity Fund to the next of kin of 422 SHG members who lost their lives due to accidents and diseases during the last year, at function held at the R.C. Fathima Boys High School in Krishnagiri on Saturday.

Mariya Susai, Rector, Don Bosco College, Dharmapuri distributed the cheques to the next to the kin of the deceased in the presence of Kulandai Francis, President, IVDP.

R. Jesudass, Principal, Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School, participated.

Presiding over the function, Mr. Kulandai Francis said that the scheme was being implemented for the last 13 years and as many as 3,018 kin of the deceased members of self-help groups had been given Rs. 10.10 crore.

Members
A total of 9,000 women SHGs with a total of 1,65,000 members are operating under the Integrated Village Development Programme (IVDP).

Manickam of Saint Mary’s Leprosy Hospital, Salem spoke on the occasion.

The scheme was introduced to help the families of those who lost their lives in accidents or because of disease, and to all those who had been permanently disabled in accidents from 2001.
